Water Fire Extinguisher
This is as simple as it can get, this water fire extinguishers contains nothing but tap water, this type of extinguisher is used for Class A fires...
Wood, Paper & Textiles Only.
This would be one of extinguishers you have in a typical office setting.
Foam Fire Extinguishers
Foam Fire Extinguishers have a special medium within the pressurized cylinder, their are many different types of foam including AFFF Foam.
These can be used on Class A & Class B fires.
Class B Fires are flammable liquids, such as Petrol's & Oils


Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguisher (CO2)
A Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguisher, also better known as a CO2 is used for Electrical Fires Only.
This Extinguisher does not have a "Class" as an Electrical Class does not exist. This extinguisher is known as a clean agent as it does not leave any material behind after discharge, as it made up of a gas.
Powder Fire Extinguisher
Powder Fire Extinguishers are to be used only in outdoor spaces or very open in-door places, as the powder within the fire extinguisher can cause harm to the human respiratory system if excessively inhaled. These are multifunctional extinguishers, they have classes of A,B & C! A Class C fire is a gaseouse fire.


Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher
The Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher is solely used for cooking oils within restaurants or takeaways. This extinguisher covers the oil with a thick layer or wax-like substance to kill the fire, as using a water based production will cause a larger fire.
Lithium Fire Extinguishers
This a fairly new type of extinguisher to keep up with the high amount of lithium ion-battery operated electronics on the market place at the moment, such as Cars, Scooters, Power Tools, Car Battery Packs.

why you do not put water on a oil fire
This is an experiment held by local Fire Service within a UK Village/Town.
This is to raise awareness for the local people about the risks involved with using water to extinguish a oil based fire.
This is why we have a specialist fire extinguisher called a Wet Chemical.
